Planting and Growing Guide for Bush (Dwarf) Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris)

Description

Generally bush or dwarf beans are sown in parallel rows, but they can be spread out to cover a rectangular area. Plant the beans fairly close together to help the plants support each other and to help shade out weeds. For a continuous yield of fresh beans for the kitchen, plant seed in small batches when the previously planted beans start to flower. Protect well against snails and slugs as these pests will destroy the plants and the young beans.

Planting Guide

Seed Depth: Sow seed directly in the soil at a depth about 1 cm (1/2 inch), about 3 times the diameter of the seed.

Space between plants: 5-10 cm apart apart (4 inches) apart

Harvest Time: First harvest in 8-10 weeks. Pick continuously to encourage more flowers
