Description
Globe Artichokes are large plants that are grown for their fleshy over-size flower buds (globes).
Planting Guide
Seed Depth:
Sow seed at a depth about three times the diameter of the seed
Space between plants:
160 - 200 cm apart (3-4 ft) apart
Harvest Time:
First harvest in about 12-14 weeks. Cut off young flower buds with some stem attached.
Hints:
Grow best in sandy soils
Harvest full-size globes in the second year
They are long-lived plants that can be grown and harvested for 5 years or more
Globe artichokes love regular watering and feeding with manure and fertilizers
Plants may not survive very cold winters
Crown rot can cause problems in warmer climates
